Author Guidelines

Manuscripts must fall within the journal's scope. ZAIJ accepts original research articles, review articles, case reports and short communications. The full guidance is on the Author Guidelines page.

Preparing the manuscript

  • Write in clear, grammatically correct English.
  • Review is double-blind: put author names and affiliations in a separate title-page file and keep them out of the main text.
  • Give an ORCID iD for the corresponding author.
  • Use the standard structure: Title, Abstract, Keywords, Introduction, Materials and Methods, Results, Discussion, Conclusion, References.

Peer review and timeline

Submissions are reviewed double-blind by at least two reviewers. The first decision typically arrives within 12 to 14 weeks.

Costs

An Article Processing Charge applies on acceptance. It depends on the income level of the corresponding author's country and on the article type, and waivers are available for eligible submissions. See Article Processing Charges.

Submission Preparation Checklist

All submissions must meet the following requirements.

  • The work fits the scope of the journal.
  • The submission has not been published before and is not under consideration by another journal.
  • The manuscript follows the reporting guideline appropriate to its design (for example CONSORT, STROBE, PRISMA, CARE or ARRIVE).
  • Tables and figures are numbered and captioned, and references carry DOIs where they exist.
  • The confidentiality of any human participants is protected, and ethics approvals are cited.
  • All authors meet the ICMJE authorship criteria and have approved the submission.
  • The authors have read the Article Processing Charges page.

Articles are published under the Creative Commons Attribution 4.0 International License (CC BY 4.0), which allows unrestricted use, distribution and reproduction in any medium, provided the original authors and source are credited. No copyright transfer agreement is required.
