Article Processing Charges
Bio-QI is free to read, so the cost of peer review, production, hosting and preservation is met by an Article Processing Charge (APC). The charge applies only when a manuscript is accepted. There is no submission fee, and a manuscript that is rejected costs its authors nothing.
Charges (USD)
The charge depends on the type of article and on the World Bank income classification of the corresponding author's country.
| Country income level | Research article | Review article | Case-based article | Short communication |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| High income | $1,079 | $879 | $779 | $579 |
| Middle income | $779 | $579 | $479 | $379 |
| Low income | $579 | $379 | $279 | $179 |
Where English language editing is required, it costs a further $179 USD, whatever the article type. See English Language Editing.
Payment methods
Payment can be made by credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Diners Club or Discover) or by wire transfer, through a secure payment gateway.
Waivers
A full waiver is available, on request, to:
- corresponding authors from low-income countries;
- authors who can show real financial hardship;
- students and early-career researchers who have no independent funding.
How to apply
Send the waiver request by e-mail when you submit your manuscript, giving your affiliation, country, sources of funding and the reason for the request. Requests made after acceptance are not considered.
How requests are decided
The editorial team decides on waiver requests before peer review begins, so that neither your ability to pay nor your waiver status can affect how your manuscript is judged.
