Corrections and Retractions
Corrections
Errors in published articles are corrected openly:
- a corrigendum is published for an error made by the authors;
- an erratum is published for an error made by the publisher.
The notice is linked to the original article.
Retractions
Where an error is serious enough to affect the conclusions, or there is evidence of misconduct, the article may be retracted. The journal follows the COPE Retraction Guidelines. A retracted article remains online, clearly marked, with the retraction notice linked to it.
Expressions of concern
Where a serious issue has been raised and not yet resolved, such as suspected misconduct, irregular data or an ethical violation, the journal may publish an expression of concern to alert readers while the matter is investigated. It stays linked to the article and is updated with the outcome: a correction, a retraction, or removal of the concern.
