Plagiarism Policy

Commitment

Bio-QI publishes original research and is committed to scholarly integrity. All forms of plagiarism are prohibited: verbatim copying, close paraphrase without attribution, self-plagiarism and unauthorised reuse.

Screening

All manuscripts submitted to Bio-QI are screened with iThenticate before peer review. A manuscript with substantial unoriginal content is rejected or returned to the authors, depending on how serious the overlap is.

Definition

Plagiarism is the use of another person's ideas, words, data, images or other original material without adequate citation or permission, whether copied verbatim or paraphrased, and whether or not the material is in copyright.

Handling suspected plagiarism

  • The Editor-in-Chief asks the corresponding author for a written explanation.
  • Where misconduct is confirmed, the manuscript may be rejected and the authors' institution informed.
  • Plagiarism found after publication is investigated following the COPE flowcharts, and may lead to a correction or a retraction.

Self-plagiarism and duplicate submission

Authors must not submit substantially the same manuscript to more than one journal at once, and must cite their own related earlier publications, including conference proceedings and preprints.
